Scholarship Application

The BioGrad Education Scholarship Programme was introduced by our CEO Dr Natalie Kenny in 2014. The aim of the programme is to support pre-university students who wish to attend a BioGrad Education course to develop their clinical and/or laboratory skills, specifically expeptional students who their school deems would benefit the most. 

Each academic year, we offer a number of scholarship places to our Partner Schools around the UK. Half of these are fully-funded (100% funded by us) and half are part-funded (50% funded by us), where the remainder can be either funded by the student or the students school/college. Please note that accomodation and travel is not included.

Upon submission of participation, all students wil be requested to complete a widening questionaire. A number of places will be reserved soley for students who meet certain awarding criteria. Not all applications will guarantee a scholarship place. 

Depending on what the student wants to do in the future, we have two different options available. 

Laboratory Skills

This is our laboratory based 5-day course. Students will spend the week learning the basics of UK lab safety and Good Lab Practise (GLP), as well as specific diagnostic techniques they wouldn't usually have access to until university, such as ELISA, PCR, and Blood Typing. They will work with our own research scientists to get them used to working alongisde real scientists. 

Clinical Skills

This is our clinic based 5-day course. Students will spend the week with one of our doctors learning medical procedures such as suturing, patient history taking, ultrasounding, and much more. Working alongside a doctor, students will be able to ask as many questions about medical school as they would like, such as how they got in, or what the average day looks like. 

• Students must attend a BioGrad Education Partner School
• Students must be ages 16-19 years of age at course commencement
• Students must currently be studying towards their A-Level or equivalent

We require a completed application from which must include a personal statement from the student. The personal statement must be a digital document containing a total of 400 words (+/- 10%) and should cover the following points:

• Why they wish to attend their chosen BioGrad Education course
• Their future academic and career goals
• How our course will help them achieve their goals 

Students predicted grades must also be submitted. 

All applications must be:

• Submitted by a member of staff
• Signed by the Career Advisor, Head of Science, Heaad of Year, or Head of School

We also ask for a reference from the applying member of staff.

We deem students 'in receipt of financial assistance' to be those who currently receive, or have received in the last 2 years, some sort of financial assistance such as (but not limited to) free school meals, scholarship/bursary places at school/college, or pupil premium funding.
